Dave Gawn

Dave leads New Zealand’s national emergency management system, helping guide the country’s readiness for, response to and recovery from major emergencies and disasters. His role sits at the heart of complex, high-pressure leadership, where sound judgement, coordination and resilience are critical.

Before joining NEMA, Dave was Chief Executive of the Pike River Recovery Agency. Earlier in his career, he served for four decades in the New Zealand Army, culminating in his appointment as Chief of Army from 2013 to 2015. He also served internationally as Head of Mission and Chief of Staff for the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation.
